Everybody’s gotta start somewhere! When it comes to piloting a drone, it’s not something you can just pick up and have an instant handle on. It takes time and effort to develop your skills. That’s why it’s a good idea to start out with drones for beginners. They’re easier to use right out of the box, the learning curve tends to be a lot less intensive, and they’re a lot cheaper to purchase (and replace). To help you pick the right one, we’ve compiled a list of the best drones for beginners who are just entering quadcopter scene.
8Syma X5c Explorers Drone for Beginners
The name of this drone says it all. The Syma X5c is designed and marketed for people who are just starting out. It’s an affordable drone, at under $35, but it offers plenty of fun for beginner pilots. With an HD camera on board, as well as the ability to perform flips while flying, it is low on cost, but it’s definitely not low on fun. A flight time of 7 minutes per charge means that it offers plenty of time for you to get the hang of piloting — and even nail some sweet aerial maneuvers.
7Hubsan X4 Quadcopter
The Hubsan X4 doesn’t come with a camera, but this is a small trade off. As a beginner, taking photos are a secondary concern as you are trying to improve your flight skills first and foremost. Costing just $25.54 it’s not going to break the bank but the agility and maneuverability of the drone means that it is perfect to learn your craft on. Measuring just 3 inches cubed and weighing only 4 ounces, it is often difficult to control in windy conditions, but the small size and weight means that it is perfect for practicing around the house.
6OKPOW 2MP Wide Angle Selfie Drone
Costing a little more than the previous entries on this list at $76.50 this drone packs in a lot of great features for the beginner pilot. While it does have an HD camera that is capable of 720p video, it offers little more in terms of images and video. The flight time for this drone is 10 minutes and, with the mobile app, you can even get real time flight video to get a more real flying experience from your drone.
5Parrot Swing Quadcopter & Plane Minidrone
This beginner drone doesn’t come with a camera included, but it does come with a range of features that make it perfect for the beginner drone pilot. Coming in at a slightly above mid range price of $69, it makes up for the lack of on board camera with two distinct flight modes. It provides you the opportunity to learn with a standard mode, and it also has a high speed mode that allows you to take things to the next level when you feel comfortable enough. A 7 minute flight time and vertical take off and landing round off the features of this beginner drone.
4Ionic Stratus Drone
The Ionic Stratus ups the ante in the price department costing a whopping $99.99, but it justifies the price with the features that it has to offer. With an awesome one button barrel roll feature, you can instantly master the art of barrel rolls mid air. The Stratus drone also gives pilots the ability to connect a GoPro to record aerial footage at a higher quality. A flight time of 10 minutes and a range of 150 meters means that you will be able to really stretch your wings while you pilot this drone.
3Cheerwing Syma X5SW-V3
The Cheerwing costs a cheerful $44.75. Giving you a HD camera built in, it also allows you to fly the drone using your mobile device if you download the relevant app. This, combined with the 6-axis stabilisation, means that it gives a smooth flight that is perfect for anyone learning their craft. A flight time of 7 minutes and top speed of 11 mph gives this drone plenty to offer to the beginner drone pilot.
2Holy Stone HS170
The Holy Stone costs $39.99. Don’t let the price fool you though, this is one of our favorite drones for beginners, and is a great drone for someone who wants to just get out there and start flying. Giving you a flight range of 160 meters, a 6 minute flight time, and a top speed of 10 mph, the Holy Stone HS170 is tons of fun. It’s incredibly stable and can handle most weather conditions, meaning that you can even get used to piloting in weather that isn’t ideal.
1Holy Stone F181
We love the Holy Stone F181. It’s our favorite out of all of the drones for beginners. The F181 costs around $55. The included features do justify the price tag, however. A flight time of 8 minutes, a top speed of 15mph and an impressive range of 300 meters all mean that the basic stats of the F181 are among the best in the entry level class of drones. It doesn’t end there though, an excellent remote and smooth-ride stabilization technology means that the F181 is great for beginners. The Holy Stone F181 even has a return to home feature if you manage to lose sight of it mid-air.
That wraps up our breakdown of the best drones for beginners. While flying a drone may seem tough when you’re first starting out – make sure you keep at it, it’s a blast once you get the hang of it.
